Job Title: Principal Electrical Engineer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design, innovation, and implementation of best-in-class systems for patient monitoring at Spacelabs Healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for design, development, and testing of electrical systems of next generation medical monitoring devices.
  • Take design and implementation ownership of large portions of the new products planned and currently under development.
  • Investigate, plan and execute design enhancements and general sustaining support for existing products currently shipping.
  • Ensure compliance with medical device regulations and standards.
  • Innovate and deploy new state of the art concepts in Communications, Analog, Power supply, video and Bus topologies.
  • Perform component and sub-system level design, proto-typing and testing work.
  • Develop solutions by assisting with simulation and component selection.
  • Oversee, and approve, all PCB layout efforts for all designs under your control.
  • Develop, write, edit, review and release Test plans in accordance with Spacelabs Document control processes.
  • Test and debug systems by evaluating and validating programs/systems and specifications for new and existing Spacelabs products.
  • Execute, review and release HW test reports as assigned by HW leadership.
  • Proactively provide communication, both written and verbal.
  • Ensure all QMS and regulatory requirements are met for assigned projects.
  • Interface with departmental staff in all of Research & Development to facilitate the completion of project tasks by providing technical support to in-house personnel.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers in design and following process.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required, Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • 10+ years' experience in electrical engineering, with at least 5 years in the medical device industry.
  • Experience with medical device regulatory requirements and standards.
  • Experience with design of high-density multi-layer PC boards, ASICs, and FPGA.
  • Demonstrated skills in ARM-core based PDA and/or, Intel x86/Pentium-M based embedded platform development, high performance computing platforms, microprocessor-based instrumentation, and digital and analog electronic design highly preferred.
  • Medical grade low signal analog and low noise power supply design skills.
  • Layout architecture skills for small signal and low noise PCB preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in analog and digital electronic design, familiar with EDA tools and methodologies preferred.
  • Experience with physiological sensor technology is desirable.
  • Experience with PCB layout and design tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD).
  • Experience planning and conducting rigorous design of experiments and tests to verify/validate designs, including use of simulation tools and methods to optimize and verify designs.
  • Requires experience in computer simulation and high reliability robust electronic designs.
  • Experience completing technical documentation for engineering and manufacturing.
  • Experience with completing technical documentation for engineering and manufacturing; medical device records experience highly preferred.
  • Has a track record of encouraging innovation and out-of-box thinking.
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex priorities within demanding timeframes. Strong project management skills.
  • Highly developed relationship-building skills, and strong presentation and communication skills.

  • Knowledge of and ability to work within a global corporate environment is required.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office user - PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. Experienced with Microsoft Project software.
