Job Summary

The Seattle Children's Theatre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Theatre Education Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our education department, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality theatre education programs to students of all ages. This is a part-time, non-exempt position with a competitive salary range of $30-$50 per hour for instructional hours and minimum wage for non-instructional time.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about theatre education and has experience in developing and executing curriculum for students aged 3.5-18. You should have strong classroom management skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

About the Role

The Theatre Education Specialist will be responsible for providing professional teaching artistry for all assigned classes, camps, workshops, and/or residencies. This will include utilizing positive classroom management techniques, developing and implementing curriculum on behalf of SCT programs, and preparing classroom materials prior to the start of each class or workshop.

You will also collaborate with other teaching artists and educators, communicate and build rapport with students, guardians, staff, teachers, and stakeholders, and maintain accurate records as required. Additionally, you may be asked to provide mentorship and support for emerging professionals, including interns, classroom assistants, apprentices, and fellows.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Bachelor's degree or a minimum of two years of work experience in a related field. You should also have at least one year of experience teaching theatre education with youth, as well as strong classroom management skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

A commitment to cultural awareness in the classroom is highly valued, and bilingual or multilingual communication skills are also highly desirable. Ability to pass a full background check and reliable mode of transportation for school residencies and workshops are also essential requirements.
