SUMMARY

The Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency is seeking a dedicated MRI Imaging Specialist I or II to join our esteemed MRI department. This part-time role (0.45 FTE) requires availability every other weekend, specifically on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM. A weekend differential of $1.00 per hour is included for this position.

Eligible external candidates may receive a sign-on bonus of $10,000 (note: contract/temporary workers and former employees returning within one year are not eligible).

Under the supervision of the area manager, the MRI Imaging Specialist will perform patient care and technical duties to ensure accurate radiologic and medical imaging diagnoses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - TECH I AND II

  • Conduct MRI examinations as per the orders of licensed medical professionals.
  • Verify MRI exam requests, radiologist protocols, and patient identification to ensure the correct procedures are performed.
  • Evaluate patient risks through interviews and medical records; inform nursing staff or physicians of any potential contraindications.
  • Gather information from various sources to assess patient safety for MRI procedures.
  • Ensure patient readiness and that all pre-medication protocols are followed as per radiologist instructions.
  • Monitor patients' needs post-contrast administration and coordinate necessary follow-up tests.
  • Educate patients and their families about procedures and assess their understanding.
  • Attend to the physical and emotional needs of patients during MRI exams, including monitoring vital signs as required.
  • Perform venipuncture for contrast administration and ensure IV access is maintained.
  • Conduct Point-of-Care lab tests to evaluate renal function prior to contrast use.
  • Prepare and administer oral and/or IV contrast as directed by licensed practitioners.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and infection prevention measures.
  • Document all clinical and regulatory information in the patient's electronic health record.
  • Respond to any complications or emergencies during exams in accordance with established protocols.
  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology, evaluating images and notifying radiologists of any abnormalities.
  • Manage medications and equipment according to hospital policies.
  • Utilize the image management system for acquiring, formatting, and archiving images.
  • Assist patients in completing informed consent forms after discussions with providers.
  • Implement manual operations during system downtimes.
  • Maintain equipment and workspaces in optimal condition, addressing any quality issues.
  • Promote a positive work environment and effective teamwork, suggesting improvements as necessary.
  • Assist in organizing workflow efficiently.
  • Participate in approved research-related exams.
  • Perform various clerical tasks and additional duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES - TECH I ONLY

  • Engage in training programs to gain proficiency in MRI examinations.
  • Participate in departmental educational in-services.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES - TECH II ONLY

  • Support physicians and residents during MR-guided procedures using aseptic techniques.
  • Train new staff and students in MRI techniques and procedures.
  • Conduct competency evaluations for new MRI staff.
  • Assist in the education and training of medical personnel.
  • Coordinate and participate in departmental continuing education.
  • Provide feedback for staff performance evaluations.

QUALIFICATIONS - TECH I AND II

  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology program recognized by the ARRT.
  • Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Maintain required continuing education credits as mandated by the ARRT.
  • Hold current CPR certification or obtain it within six months of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS - TECH I ONLY

  • Achieve MR certification (ARRT) within 36 months of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS - TECH II ONLY

  • Possess MR certification (ARRT).
