SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

  • Oversee the daily operations of engineers and/or technicians as assigned.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of new team members.
  • Conduct timely and constructive performance evaluations.
  • Manage employee discipline and termination in accordance with company policies.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in sheet metal design, preferably in material handling or conveyance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Hands-on approach to problem-solving in diverse environments.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing and engineering principles.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, with a preference for SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (preferably SyteLine) and PLM or PDM systems.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical controls and circuit design.
  • Extensive experience in tolerancing, GD&T, and machine design.
  • Understanding of power transmission systems, including drives, pulleys, belts, and gearboxes.
  • Familiarity with conveyors and material handling systems is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with all organizational levels.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing.
  • 10+ years of experience in a relevant engineering field, with 5-10 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Expertise in modern manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Proficiency in Lean problem-solving methodologies is preferred.

LANGUAGE AND MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and customer specifications. Capable of writing routine reports and correspondence. Effective communication skills with internal and external stakeholders are essential.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Proficient in 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks or 3D Inventor.
  • Proficient in 2D AutoCAD.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting. The employee will spend significant time on the shop floor and may need to lift up to 50 lbs. Additionally, the position involves extended periods of computer use.

TRAVEL:

Travel requirements are typically minimal, around 15% or less.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee will work in an office setting with regular interaction with shop floor personnel. Workdays may vary between these environments based on current tasks. Occasional travel may be necessary to customer sites or suppliers, where exposure to mechanical parts and airborne particles may occur. Noise levels in the work environment vary but generally do not require hearing protection.
