Building Plans Examiner

Welcome to the Teton County team As a Plans Examiner, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that building plans and specifications comply with state and federal regulations, as well as County policies and procedures.
Job Summary:The Plans Examiner will be responsible for reviewing building plans and specifications to verify compliance with building codes, state laws, and County regulations. This includes reviewing and approving permit applications, conducting site visits, and providing technical advice to architects, engineers, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage building permit project review, reviewing building plans and specifications, and checking calculations to verify compliance with building codes.
- Perform site visits as necessary to resolve issues and verify construction compliance.
- Take building permit applications from pre-application conference to final action, ensuring projects comply with all State regulations, adopted building codes, and other policies of the County.
- Provide building and energy code technical advice to architects, engineers, and contractors, ensuring plans comply with the Teton County Energy Mitigation Plan and associated fees are collected.
- Work with Building Inspection staff and contractors to resolve code issues, reviewing plan changes and modifications for projects under construction, and performing site visits as necessary to resolve issues and verify construction compliance.
- Coordinate plan review and approvals with other County departments, meeting with applicants in preliminary meetings.
- Support the relationship between Teton County staff and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and County staff, maintaining confidentiality of work-related issues and County information, and performing other duties as required or assigned.
- High School Diploma
- Associates Degree in Building Inspection Technology, Construction Engineering, Architecture, or Civil Engineering preferred
- Five years of experience in building inspection, building code enforcement, or plan review programs
- International Code Council (ICC) Plans Examiner certification
- Additional certifications for Residential and Commercial Plumbing, Mechanical, and Energy codes
Work is performed in a standard office environment, with occasional trips to building sites.
