Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Director of Financial Accounting, the Project Accounting Manager will oversee the daily functions of the Project Accounting Department. This role involves direct supervision of the Project Accounting Assistant Supervisors and collaboration with a team of Project Staff Accountants and Project Accountants. The manager will communicate and implement departmental goals, policies, and procedures effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties:
  • Supervise and mentor the Project Accounting Assistant Supervisors, ensuring workload distribution and adherence to deadlines.
  • Conduct recruitment, performance evaluations, and maintain accurate documentation for assigned staff.
  • Maintain open communication with staff regarding workflow changes and address concerns promptly.
  • Review and approve timesheets while managing departmental overtime.
  • Assist staff in resolving issues and inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Troubleshoot system issues related to accounting processes.
  • Provide training on finance, project accounting, and billing policies.
  • Coordinate contract setup in accordance with accounting requirements.
  • Oversee contract rollovers for option years.
  • Support all audits related to job costing.
  • Document and maintain detailed instructions for assigned duties.
  • Coordinate monthly project analysis reviews and initiate corrective actions as necessary.
  • Manage the reconciliation of billed and unbilled balance sheet accounts.
  • Coordinate fiscal year-end closing schedules for project accounting.
  • Collaborate with other finance departments to meet month-end and year-end deadlines.
  • Update and document project accounting and billing policies and procedures.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Mandatory:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field with a minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience, including supervisory experience with a team of 6 to 10 staff members. Alternatively, a two (2) year Accounting degree with six (6) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, or eight (8) years of relevant experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of accounting processes, including payroll, accounts payable, general ledger, and job cost accounting.
  • Experience with governmental contracts and automated billing systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
