Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance is seeking a dedicated Senior Claims Examiner with a strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and claims management. This role involves overseeing a varied portfolio of claims related to insurance agents, including property & casualty agents, financial advisers, and Broker-Dealers within the Executive and Professional Liability division. The ideal candidate will possess robust analytical and technical skills, complemented by excellent interpersonal abilities, as this position requires significant interaction with clients, brokers, external legal counsel, mediators, underwriters, actuaries, and senior management. This role works closely with BHSI's Underwriting Team and is an excellent opportunity for those with experience in professional liability claims.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and assess professional liability claims involving Life Agents and Broker-Dealers, impacting both primary and excess policies.
- Collaborate with management to analyze coverage, liability, and damages to ascertain the company's exposure and the insured's risk, with guidance from external counsel as needed.
- Partner with insured parties and defense attorneys to develop strategies for claim resolution.
- Proactively oversee claim investigations from initial notice of loss to final resolution, coordinating with defense counsel to establish a strategic action plan, including budget discussions and meetings with clients, counsel, and brokers.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and technical knowledge, working effectively with insureds, brokers, and underwriters throughout the claims process.
- Analyze and draft coverage letters as necessary, clearly communicating coverage positions.
- Prepare reports and provide recommendations regarding reserve adjustments.
- Travel for conferences, mediations, and client meetings as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience in professional liability claims or insurance defense at an insurance company or law firm is preferred.
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in claims handling or defense firm work is required.
- A college degree is mandatory; a Juris Doctorate is preferred.
- A solid understanding of life insurance and the securities markets is essential.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills are necessary.
- Ability to excel in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
