About the Role

Cornell University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Coordinator for Physical Education to oversee the day-to-day operations of the fitness, weight training, dance, personal growth, and fencing courses offered to Cornell University students through the Physical Education department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement courses, programs, and services that promote physical activity, wellness, and recreation among students.
  • Supervise and train instructors, maintain equipment and supplies, and teach classes as needed.
  • Create and manage the Appel Fitness Center schedule, working in conjunction with the Fitness Center staff to provide a variety of fitness opportunities for students.
  • Collaborate with other departments and units to promote a culture of wellness and physical activity on campus.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty, and staff to promote the Physical Education department's programs and services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years or more experience in fitness programming or Physical Education, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current American Red Cross Basic CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Current American Red Cross/CPR instructor certification, or ability to obtain within first two months of employment.
  • Personal Training Certification from ACSM, NASM, ACE, ISSA, NSCA, or AFAA and 2 years of personal training experience with one-on-one clients as well as group/class settings.
  • Experience teaching fitness/recreation to college-age students or older.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • 2-3 years of experience with staff supervision.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree, particularly in Recreation Management or Sports Management.
  • Experience working in a university setting with college-aged students.
  • Group Fitness Certification.
  • Experience using Acalog, Course Class Interface, PeopleSoft, Canvas, Faculty Center, and Google Drive.
  • Fitness center facility supervision and management.
