Per Diem Registrar

The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Per Diem Registrar to join our Express Care team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring seamless patient registration and insurance verification processes, while providing exceptional patient-focused care delivery within the department.
Key Responsibilities:- Greet and direct patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Answer telephones promptly and direct calls to appropriate personnel or departments, taking messages and ensuring timely delivery.
- Collect and distribute patient referral information received from affiliated physicians.
- Escort visitors and patients to appropriate areas, providing information to assist with navigation.
- Ensure cultural sensitivity and promote an inclusive environment for patients and staff.
- Distribute departmental reading materials, such as the Emergency Department brochure, Health Care Proxy, and Patient Bill of Rights.
- Register patients by updating or entering demographic, financial, and emergency contact information into the computer system.
- Verify demographic information and insurance coverage by interviewing patients, family members, or friends.
- Generate patients' charts and attach pertinent information, such as Emerg Card, Medicaid threshold, and EMS sheet, according to policy and established procedure.
- Review discharged patient charts for diagnosis, physician signature, dictation code, menu, and appropriate forms for completion.
- Process specimens for laboratory(ies) by ensuring specimens are properly labeled, forms are completed, and identification processes are followed.
- File charts and retrieve old records, ensuring accurate and timely retrieval.
- Enter data into required computerized systems and maintain patient recall files.
- Log patients on/in to registration sheets/logs and reconcile log books.
- Obtain signatures for consent and make clinic appointments as needed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Computer experience necessary, with ability to set priorities, problem-solve, and use proper judgment in difficult situations.
- Sufficient oral and written communication skills in English to communicate effectively.
The Mount Sinai Health System offers a competitive salary range of $27.59 per hour, with actual salaries dependent on experience, education, and hospital need. This is a non-bargaining unit position, and the salary range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
