Program: San Diego Emergency Shelter
Status: Regular Part Time - 20 hours
Pay: $21.87 per hour
Work Schedule: Flexible to work evenings and/or weekends (various shifts available).

South Bay Community Services operates a year-round confidential emergency shelter program dedicated to assisting victims of domestic violence and their children. The services provided include 24-hour emergency shelter, meals, transportation, a crisis hotline, psychological support, peer counseling, referrals to community resources, and educational outreach.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direct supervision of the Program Coordinator of Facilities, the Cleaning Maintenance Associate is tasked with ensuring that shelter facilities are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Dependability, responsibility, efficiency, and effective communication are essential skills for this role.

DUTIES:

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of shelter facilities.
  • Perform tasks such as dust mopping, damp mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, window cleaning, and furniture movement.
  • Regularly clean, scrub, polish, and disinfect all bathrooms, kitchens, and high-touch surfaces.
  • Empty trash and garbage containers in all assigned areas.
  • Conduct heavy cleaning duties, including floor maintenance.
  • Organize custodial closets and storage areas.
  • Ensure cleaning equipment is in working condition.
  • Follow established safety precautions and infection control practices while performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining the overall cleanliness and safety of the facility, including responding to spills.
  • Support cleaning client units upon their departure from the shelter.
  • Keep detailed and thorough cleaning logs.
  • Carry out daily housekeeping functions as assigned.
  • Report incidents and maintenance issues to the supervisor as required.
  • Remain adaptable and flexible in crisis situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma, GED, or 1 year of experience in a similar role.
  • Prior professional cleaning maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Ability to perform job duties that are guest-focused and trauma-informed.
  • Exhibit a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals with high-risk needs.
  • Communicate positively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, and coworkers.
  • Able to transport equipment and supplies between floors.
  • Position requires the ability to ascend or descend stairs.
  • Capable of operating and maintaining all housekeeping/laundry equipment.
  • Detail-oriented with high standards of cleanliness in public areas.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients.
  • Self-motivated, proactive team member.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Condition of Employment:
