Position Overview: The Environmental Education Corps (eeCorps) AmeriCorps Program, led by the Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education (KACEE), is dedicated to enhancing environmental literacy among PreK-12 students and strengthening the capacity for environmental education across the region.

Role Responsibilities: As an AmeriCorps member, you will collaborate with educators, schools, and environmental organizations to broaden the reach and effectiveness of environmental education initiatives. Your contributions will ensure equitable learning opportunities for all students.

This role will be stationed at a local zoo, a unique institution that serves the community by providing immersive educational experiences. The zoo showcases a diverse array of native and endangered species, alongside stunning botanical exhibits.

Through engaging field trips and camps, you will facilitate hands-on learning experiences that allow students to explore the natural world, featuring live animal interactions and guided tours. You will also assist educators in integrating environmental education into their classrooms.

Impact: Join a vital program that significantly influences students of various ages and abilities, empowering them to become future environmental stewards.

Member Duties: Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Caring for ambassador animals utilized in educational programs.
  • Creating and delivering educational programming for schools and community groups.
  • Planning and conducting summer camps and reading initiatives.
  • Building relationships with educators and community leaders.
  • Developing new outreach initiatives.
  • Assisting with daily operations, including visitor interactions and program preparations.
  • Participating in staff meetings and AmeriCorps activities.

Program Benefits: Members will receive a living allowance, an education award upon successful completion of service, health coverage, and training opportunities.

Terms: This position allows for attendance at educational institutions during off-hours.
