Job Summary

The Town of Little Elm is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Detention Officer to join our team. As a Detention Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our community by providing support to our law enforcement officers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily inspections of the jail facility to ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Process and book prisoners, including visitations, bonding procedures, and arraignments.
  • Replenish supplies and linen for use within the jail facility.
  • Follow prescribed procedures for the treatment, movement, care, and security of all persons held within the jail facility.
  • Assist with traffic control and direction, including around fire ground operations, disabled vehicles, accident scenes, and stranded motorists.
  • Complete and file reports for minor incidents and offenses.
  • Perform other assignments as given by the Operations Division Commander.
Requirements
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must not have been convicted of any Class A misdemeanor or felony criminal offenses.
  • Must not have been convicted of any Class B misdemeanor offenses within the past five years.
  • Must possess 20/20 corrected vision and 20/200 uncorrected.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver's license.
  • Must complete Basic Municipal Jail Training within six months.
Work Environment

As a Detention Officer, you will work in a fast-paced environment with varying shifts and days of the week. You will be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids, work in all weather conditions, and work on uneven, wet, or slippery surfaces.

Essential Job Functions

The following are some of the specific job tasks or functions typically required of a Detention Officer:

  • Daily inspection of the jail facility.
  • Feeding of prisoners and stocking of food supply.
  • Inspection of prisoners held within the jail.
  • Booking, release, and processing of prisoners.
  • Replenishment of supplies and linen.
  • Treatment, movement, care, and security of prisoners.
  • Traffic control and direction.
  • Completion of reports.
