Role and Responsibilities:
We are seeking a skilled Machinist to join our team at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. As a Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating various machine tools to perform specialty machining operations on radioactive and non-radioactive materials.
Key Responsibilities:
- Setup and operate CNC milling/lathe work, EDM, and other milling machines, lathes, grinders, and jig bore.
- Read and interpret drawings, sketches, and written specifications to comply with and perform operations as designated.
- Make layouts on work involving interrelated dimensions, with layouts occurring in more than one surface of the workplace.
- Check work using measuring and checking instruments such as comparators, shadow graphs, micrometers, limit gauges, and vernier measuring instruments.
- Make all calculations required by work documents, including arithmetic, geometry, and trigonometry.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
- Journeyman's papers in a related field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience operating Computerized Numerical Control milling/lathe work.
- Experience with Electrical Discharge Machining.
