Director of Wellness and Recreation

Job Summary:
The State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for the Director of Wellness and Recreation position in the Department of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation. This is a calendar-year position responsible for the vision and operations of the wellness and recreation program at SUNY New Paltz.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the Department of Wellness and Recreation, supervising and guiding professional staff, support staff, and student staff.
- Develop and manage the departmental budget, formulating a plan to meet budget expectations.
- Develop marketing strategies to engage existing students and attract new student users.
- Assess and report on programs and facility services effectiveness and efficiency in meeting department goals.
- Develop policies and operating procedures for Wellness and Recreation facilities and programs.
- Promote full participation and involvement of a diverse student population in Wellness and Recreation opportunities.
- Coordinate equipment repairs and maintenance in the Athletic and Wellness Center.
- Responsible for Risk Management within Wellness and Recreation programming.
- Hire, train, and schedule student, building, and wellness staff employees.
- Supervise the Assistant Director of Wellness and Recreation.
- Participate in professional development with the National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA).
- Represent the department on campus committees.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and at least four years' experience in college administration.
- Demonstrated ability to establish good rapport and effective working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
- Five years' experience organizing, planning, and implementing recreation, fitness, wellness, and special events in a college or university setting.
- Ability to work weekends and observe a schedule that meets operational needs.
- Current CPR, AED, and first aid certifications required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree.
