Medical Technologist/Technical Aide

Job Summary:

This is a temporary or on-call position at Michigan State University. The successful candidate will provide technical support in a medical laboratory setting. Responsibilities may include medical patient care, medical equipment maintenance, repair, or operation, or other medical-technological support functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform, analyze, and evaluate complex laboratory testing to obtain data for use by healthcare providers in the diagnosis of patients.
  • Perform lab tests on specimens, complete maintenance and calibration of lab equipment, and evaluate testing results.
  • Follow procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Medical Technology and one year internship at an approved institution laboratory.
  • One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunohematology, urinalysis, and coagulation.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist or eligible as MT(ASCP).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a medical laboratory, including interaction with physicians and nursing staff regarding the reporting and interpretation of test results.
  • Strong customer service skills, including instructing patients in the requirements of specimen collection.
