The Physical Sciences Department at RTX is on the lookout for a forward-thinking engineer or scientist proficient in polymer matrix composite (PMC) materials, manufacturing processes, and automation techniques.

The selected candidate will play a crucial role within dynamic teams dedicated to the development and enhancement of innovative materials and manufacturing technologies tailored for aerospace and defense applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage intricate technology contracts.
  • Facilitate the growth and execution of the PMC-focused technology development strategy.
  • Conceive new ideas, draft proposals, and promote these concepts internally and externally.
  • Generate intellectual property and disseminate technical findings through publications and presentations.
Essential Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in automated manufacturing processes and robotics related to polymer matrix composites.
  • A comprehensive understanding of PMC and automation technologies, particularly in aerospace and defense contexts, along with a robust professional network.
  • Proven leadership in managing multidisciplinary projects and delivering results on schedule.
  • Initiative in developing concepts, drafting proposals, and expanding the technology portfolio in the PMC domain.
  • Track record of published papers and patents.
  • Must be a U.S. Person or eligible for necessary export authorizations.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with various composite materials and processes, including process sensing, material characterization, and testing.
  • Familiarity with scaling up composite manufacturing and transitioning technology from research to production.
  • Understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence applications.
  • Experience in additive manufacturing, composite production, and structural simulation.
  • Effective communication skills for engaging with both technical experts and management personnel.
Education and Experience:

A PhD in Manufacturing and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field, accompanied by a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience is typically required.
