About the Role

Girl Scouts of Western New York Inc is seeking a dedicated and passionate Unit Counselor to join our team at Summer Resident Camp – Seven Hills/Timbercrest. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is mission-driven, looking to work in a dynamic team environment, and influence the lives of girls.

The estimated salary for this role is $4,500 - $6,000 per season, based on applicant's experience and location.

Job Description

This full-time seasonal position involves assisting in facilitating activities designed to help campers understand and live up to the Girl Scout Promise and Law and to develop an appreciation for and enjoy the outdoors.

  • Develops professional goals for the summer that will support and meet GSWNY's mission and camp goals;
  • Helps girls in the unit learn to respect the rights of others and understand differences and similarities of other campers;
  • Assists in teaching activities through the use of the Girl Scout Camping program and the Girl Scout Leadership Experience;
  • Lives in a unit (female staff only) and assists with planning activities and programs that coincide with the weekly theme/camp brochure and meet camper needs and interests;
  • Responsible for camper health and safety;
  • Helps coordinate unit activities with input from campers and unit staff, including overnights, cookouts, hikes, etc.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, ability to project professionalism at all times, and a commitment to diversity and interacting with diverse populations.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality;
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities;
  • Experience working with children preferred;
  • Desire and ability to work with and relate to children and peers in an outdoor environment;
  • Prior camp experience and/or interest in the Girl Scout Camping program helpful;
  • High School diploma or the equivalent;
  • Current certification in Responding to Emergencies & CPR or willingness to complete certification course during designated training day.
