Mental Health Counselor


About the Position

The Juvenile Justice Center of Philadelphia is seeking a Mental Health Counselor to join our Aftercare Evening Reporting Center team. As an integral member of our staff, you will provide support to justice-involved youth, helping them achieve successful completion of probationary terms and preventing future involvement with juvenile justice services.

This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to develop positive relationships with youth, their families, and community partners. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in human services, preferably social work or counseling, and two years of experience in family-based social work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized supports to youth to promote successful completion of probationary terms
  • Facilitate group sessions on life skills, decision-making, trauma, and other topics consistent with Pennsylvania's Balanced and Restorative Justice model
  • Identify and connect youth with community resources and supports, including employment opportunities, post-secondary education, and volunteer activities
  • Maintain close contact with assigned probation officers and case managers to ensure collaborative support for youth
  • Develop and implement individualized service plans to help youth achieve their goals and prepare for discharge

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in human services, preferably social work or counseling
  • Two years of experience in family-based social work
  • Act 168, FBI, child abuse, and PA criminal clearances
  • Possess valid driver's license with clean driving record

Salary: $42K - $45K annually, commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) retirement plan.
