Job Title: Security Custodian - Correctional Facility
Salary Range: $54,080.00 - $60,070.40 Annually

About the Position:

The Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center seeks highly motivated and dedicated individuals to fill the position of Security Custodian in our correctional facility.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise Inmates: Directly supervise inmates within the facility, ensuring their safety and well-being, as well as the safety of employees and citizens.
  • Searches and Documentation: Conduct thorough searches of inmates upon arrival, confiscate contraband, and document incidents according to established protocols.
  • Custodial Services: Maintain a clean and sanitary environment within the facility by preparing food trays, feeding inmates, and performing janitorial duties.
  • Communication and Reporting: Communicate effectively with medical staff, monitor inmate health, and write reports documenting incidents and evidence collection.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Training: Must complete the Detention Officer Academy within six (6) months of hire.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Possess a valid New Mexico Class D Driver's License for driving County vehicles during work hours.
Working Conditions:

This role involves working in an adult detention center setting, both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions. The schedule includes shift work, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call hours. Employees will be required to perform manual labor tasks, including lifting up to 25 pounds, dragging up to 175 pounds, and occasionally lifting up to 300 pounds with assistance. Good physical stamina is necessary for this position, as it may involve dealing with confrontational situations and moving detainees or objects.
