About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HSE Specialist to join our team at Terex. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining our HSE policies, practices, and Roadmaps in Mount Vernon Operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Strategy
    • Develop and implement HSE policies, practices, and Roadmaps to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Lead the site HSE policy development, strategic planning, Zero Harm, and HSE Roadmap development.
    • Address any compliance issues and stay up-to-date with current legislation.
  • Technical Expertise
    • Provide HSE advice specific to the business, acting as a technical expert and internal consultant.
    • Direct, lead, and coach site leadership on HSE best practice to ensure managers are focused on delivering a safe working environment.
  • Program Development and Implementation
    • Develop, initiate, and coordinate short, medium, and long-term activities and innovative preventative strategies and programs for sustained HSE performance.
    • Continually enhance the safety culture.
  • Reporting and Investigation
    • Manage reporting and investigation procedures for accidents/incidents and workers' Compensation Claims.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure regulatory compliance of all environmental permits and processes.
    • Lead environmental controls, waste management systems, carbon, and energy reduction projects to reduce sites' carbon footprint.
  • Communication and Training
    • Set, monitor, and report on KPIs.
    • Chair HSE committee meetings and conduct periodical management reviews.
    • Support and help build a culture of wellness through collaboration with HR.
    • Develop and deliver safety training.
  • Leadership and Influence
    • Lead and implement in-house (and external where required) HSE training with managers.
    • Manage internal HSE audits and external compliance audit programs, supporting 5S audits.
    • Ensure compliance to policies and procedures through internal and external site inspections.
    • Increase awareness of HSE through training and communication.
    • Recognize employee accomplishments and contributions to HSE.
    • Represent and promote the organization's HSE performance to third parties.
Requirements
  • Education
    • Certified or working towards AS/BS/MS in occupational health, safety, or a related field such as engineering, biology, or chemistry.
  • Experience
    • A minimum of two years' HSE-related experience.
    • A minimum of three years' experience working within a manufacturing/operations environment or equivalent.
  • Skills
    • Strong working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety compliance law and industrial hygiene.
    • Ability to identify hazards, critical processes, and system needs and implement as appropriate.
    • High standard of written English and good communication skills, including professional telephone manner and strong presentation and report writing skills.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
    • Ability to work at a high level under pressure.
  • Desirable
    • Certified or working towards Safety Professional Associate Safety Professional or Certified Safety Professional.
    • Experience of implementation, development, or auditing of management systems; OHSAS 18001/ISO45001, ISO50001, ISO14001, ISO9001.
    • Experience of coaching and mentoring.
    • Problem-solving skills.
    • Experience within heavy manufacturing environments.
    • Thorough understanding of lean manufacturing.
    • Ergonomics training.
