Role Objective:

The Utility-Scale Solar Electrical Engineer plays a pivotal role in the design and development of photovoltaic power plants. This position is part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary team that requires strong engineering expertise, proficiency in AutoCAD drafting, and experience in land development coordination. The engineer will work closely with our Engineering and Development teams on a variety of solar projects, leveraging advanced AutoCAD skills to enhance technical efficiency within our team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the electrical engineering aspects of commercial and utility-scale solar projects.
  • Coordinate internal resources to produce construction documentation (30%-IFC) for multiple projects within the company portfolio.
  • Collaborate with the Senior PV Electrical Engineer to ensure design integrity and manage change orders with relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Incorporate feedback from interconnection studies and utility reviews into the final design stages (30%-IFC).
  • Conduct thorough reviews of electrical calculations, including short circuit, arc flash, and ampacity analyses as required.
  • Maintain consistency in short-circuit studies through collaboration with external consultants.
  • Oversee internal engineering resources to ensure adherence to design timelines.
  • Align project priorities with the engineering team to ensure cohesive progress.
  • Work with the Engineer of Record to review and validate deliverables outlined in the scope of work.
  • Implement strategies for Real, Apparent, and Reactive Power in accordance with utility requirements.
  • Collaborate with senior project engineers to develop and optimize preliminary layouts for PV systems.
  • Enhance the team's capabilities by developing specialized knowledge or skill sets.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a professional engineering, construction, or land development setting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of 480V, 600V, and 800V photovoltaic designs.
  • Strong knowledge of current NEC, NESC, and IEEE standards.
  • Experience in managing internal engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills to facilitate technical discussions with contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficient in establishing equipment specifications for final submissions.
  • Familiarity with SCADA design standards for Performance Testing and O&M of PV sites.
  • Experience interpreting geotechnical reports and conducting electrical studies.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, integrity, and proven organizational skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Strong AutoCAD drafting capabilities, including experience with layers, blocks, coordinate systems, and industry standards; familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or AutoCAD Map 3D is advantageous.
  • A demonstrated ability to provide efficient, timely, and reliable service to both internal and external stakeholders.
