PROMESA R.H.C.F. invites applications for the position of Counselor for HIV Prevention and Support, who will play a crucial role in promoting the health and well-being of individuals at risk of or living with HIV.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering HIV counseling, testing, and education sessions, as well as linking clients with essential services, including HIV primary medical care, behavioral health services, and psychosocial services. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills, a non-judgmental attitude, and the ability to work collaboratively with healthcare providers and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver HIV pre- and post-test counseling sessions, ensuring that clients receive accurate information and supportive guidance
  • Coordinate HIV testing and blood draws (if qualified) and facilitate connections with local healthcare providers
  • Refer clients to HIV primary medical care, behavioral health services, and psychosocial services, empowering them to access necessary support
  • Develop and implement engaging group HIV education and awareness sessions, using interactive strategies to promote knowledge retention
  • Enter patient service data into NextGen, contributing to the maintenance of accurate records and facilitating effective case management

Qualifications:

  • NYS HIV Pre- and Post-Test Counseling Certification or Certified Prevention Specialist Certification
  • Experience in drawing blood (desired)
  • One year of individual and group counseling experience in a social service setting, particularly in HIV/AIDS-related services
  • Bilingualism in Spanish is strongly preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of HIV/AIDS and its impact on individuals and communities

Benefits:
