Job Overview

CEC Motor and Utility Services is seeking a dedicated Utility Worker for our Service Center.

Work Environment

The role primarily involves outdoor tasks, which may include exposure to adverse weather conditions, proximity to open wet wells, public roadways, lift stations, manholes, trenches, sewage, and various chemicals. Employees may also face direct sunlight, moisture, noise, heavy machinery, and mechanical and electrical equipment.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to regularly lift items weighing up to 65 pounds, navigate rough terrain, and work in or over water/wastewater, at heights, or in confined spaces.
  • Capability to perform various physical activities including sitting, squatting, standing, walking, and driving.
Reporting Structure
  • The Utility Worker will report directly to the Utilities Manager.
Important Note

This position requires successful completion of drug, background, and motor vehicle record screenings.

Compensation

Hourly rate ranges from $20 to $23.

Key Responsibilities
  • Excavate and expose utility piping.
  • Access confined spaces for wastewater wet well demolition.
  • Perform various trades including carpentry, concrete work, plumbing, grading, and landscaping.
  • Maintain a tidy and secure job site by properly storing tools and equipment.
  • Assist in loading and unloading trucks and hoisting materials.
  • Utilize tools safely and effectively.
  • Follow and communicate both oral and written instructions.
  • Work collaboratively and independently.
  • Adhere to safety protocols consistently.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience, or a combination of training and experience.
  • Physical capability to engage in strenuous labor for extended periods, including maneuvering uneven terrain and working in confined spaces.
  • In-depth knowledge of underground utility construction, trenching, excavation, pipe installation, safe digging practices, OSHA regulations, and confined space entry.
  • Able to interpret and respond to audible danger signals.
  • Proven ability to work independently and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Proficient in safely operating heavy machinery and tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for understanding and conveying instructions.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record are required.
