The Orientation and Mobility Specialist will teach students with visual impairments to navigate their surroundings safely and independently. This role requires a strong understanding of Braille and orientation techniques, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement individualized lesson plans to meet the unique needs of each student
- Teach students to read and write in Braille, as well as to use assistive technology to access educational materials
- Provide guidance and support to students in navigating their surroundings, including using canes and other mobility aids
- Collaborate with other educators and support staff to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive educational experience for all students
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education or a related field
- Current Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) certification
- Minimum 1-3 years of experience working with students with visual impairments
