The Physician Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering medical consultations, managing routine patient care, and conducting follow-ups as directed by supervising physicians. Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Physician Assistant encompass, but are not limited to:
- Conducting comprehensive patient assessments to gather necessary health information.
- Identifying actual or potential health issues based on collected data and formulating appropriate therapeutic plans.
- Requesting and initiating relevant laboratory tests, medications, treatments, and consultations based on thorough data analysis.
- Performing routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing (excluding tendons, arteries, or nerves), wound care, and managing uncomplicated conditions arising from infections, trauma, or other medical issues.
- Providing patient education regarding prescribed treatments and medications.
- Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of patient medical records.
- Making rounds as requested by physicians and preparing patient discharge summaries as needed.
- For ISMC Neurosurgical: Ensuring all necessary pre-operative tests (e.g., labs, EKGs, X-rays) are completed prior to surgery and assisting physicians during surgical procedures.
- For Metro ER: Assisting in triage and initiating necessary radiographic and laboratory studies for patients awaiting care.
- For Mental Health: Conducting patient assessments following therapeutic holds in accordance with state and federal regulations.
This role may involve additional physical demands and respiratory fit test requirements. There is a potential risk of exposure to infections, communicable diseases, blood and body fluids, electrical equipment, and chemicals. Adherence to standard precautions is mandatory. Qualifications
- A degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program is required.
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in the state of Oklahoma is mandatory.
- Current BLS certification is required.
- Effective communication skills in English are essential.
- For ISMC Neurosurgical Department: One year of experience in a surgical setting is preferred.
- For Emergency Department: One year of experience in a comprehensive emergency department setting is preferred.
- For NZTI: Current ACLS certification is required for those working with adults in acute care environments.
- Current PALS certification is required for those working with children in acute care environments.
