Job Summary
The Oncology Patient Access Specialist provides exceptional service by identifying customer needs and exceeding expectations. This role is responsible for complex scheduling and services within the Cancer Center, verifying and entering insurance information and authorization/referral requirements. The specialist counsels patients on financial liability, utilizing available financial counseling tools to achieve maximum reimbursement for patient services. Additionally, they contribute to a safe patient care environment by identifying, analyzing, and effectively solving problems. Effective communication is key in this role, as the specialist must communicate with various audiences using the most appropriate methods for the situation.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather information about customer complaints in a courteous and professional manner.
- Provide direct and honest feedback between team members in a non-punishing manner.
- Anticipate and prepare for overload and peak work conditions.
- Support scheduling activities by conducting pre-service activities such as insurance verification and submission.
- Select the most effective communication method considering the audience, type of message, and intended outcome.
- Respond to daily problems with a sense of urgency and deliver an acceptable volume of work with high levels of accuracy.
- Report safety hazards and take appropriate action to protect the environment and guests.
- Explain insurance benefits and patient liability using appropriate communication methods and style.
- Identify and communicate payroll authorization and referral requirements.
Requirements
This role requires 4 years of healthcare patient access experience, healthcare revenue cycle experience, or 4 years of related oncology medical office experience. A High School diploma or equivalent is also required.
