Are you someone with personal experience in substance use recovery? The Family Peer Mentor plays a crucial role in providing support to families as they navigate the complexities of child welfare and related systems. This position is designed to offer hope and encouragement, fostering healing to ensure the safety of children and the unity of families.

The Family Peer Mentor will work closely with families referred by the Public Children Services Agency (PCSA) due to issues of child maltreatment, particularly where substance abuse is a significant concern. As a vital member of the local START team, you will collaborate with child welfare caseworkers, supervisors, and behavioral health providers to achieve the common goal of safeguarding children and maintaining family integrity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of 10-12 families, providing tailored support and guidance.
  • Utilize personal recovery experiences to inspire and motivate families.
  • Assist families in understanding and navigating child welfare processes.

Qualifications:

  • Proven long-term recovery from a substance use disorder (SUD).
  • Minimum educational requirement: GED.
  • No ongoing criminal activity.
  • Personal experience with the child welfare system, either as a parent or a child.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

Employment Details:
