Job Description

The University of Mount Saint Vincent seeks a skilled General Maintenance Technician to join its Facilities Department. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal condition and functionality of campus equipment and buildings.

This role requires a strong background in industrial or maintenance experience, with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience. The ideal candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with proficiency in reading and writing in English.

The General Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing manual repairs, including hardware, window/screen repairs, and blinds. They will also carry out basic carpentry tasks, handle basic lighting and electrical system maintenance, and address work orders.

The successful candidate will have a solid working knowledge of tools, common appliances, and maintenance equipment. They will be able to perform basic math calculations and possess strong problem-solving skills. A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is also required.

The University of Mount Saint Vincent offers a competitive salary of $22.30 per hour, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, medical/dental/vision, and a pension plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform manual repairs, including hardware, window/screen repairs, and blinds.
  • Carry out basic carpentry tasks.
  • Handle basic lighting and electrical system maintenance.
  • Address work orders and prioritize repairs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on building equipment and fixtures.
  • Monitor machinery for signs of malfunction and conduct troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Assist with emergency repairs on various machinery.
  • Conduct basic plumbing repairs.
  • Perform routine inspections of Fire Alarm panels and document/report their status.
  • Regularly inspect Boilers and record status and temperature.
  • Support other maintenance personnel.
  • Maintain an inventory of repair tools and supplies.
  • Keep maintenance storage areas and workshops clean.
  • Maintain records and submit basic reports as required.
  • Report any injuries or accidents immediately.
  • Verify task performance and ensure resources are used effectively through field checks.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with Facilities Staff and Management.
  • Uphold the integrity, effectiveness, and efficiency of the University's Facilities Department.
  • Work independently, with accountability and authority.
