Proofreader/Keyboarder

We are seeking a skilled Proofreader/Keyboarder to join our team at the Government Publishing Office. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of our publications.
Key Responsibilities- Proofread and revise typographical, spelling, and style errors in various types of documents
- Prepare copies for typesetting and operate computer terminals to produce databases
- Revises galley corrections and page proofs, and troubleshoots files to identify and fix errors
- Utilize SGML, XML, and associated programs to proofread and typeset government publications
- Manipulate various file types to make corrections, author's alterations, and updates
- Key manuscripts with a high degree of accuracy
To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision
- Typical duties related to the work of the Proofreader/Keyboarder position must include:
- Proofreading books, newspapers, or magazine proofs for publication or general distribution
- Key manuscripts with a high degree of speed and accuracy, working in a fast-paced environment
- Typesetting material and applying and interpreting proofreader marks
- This requires knowledge of printing composition technology, processes, and terminology, skill in using and interpreting standard proofreader marks, and skill in using personal computers and software related to the printing/composing trade
In addition, applicants must have at least one year of journey person-level experience in proofreading books or magazine proofs for publication or general distribution, or two years of journey person-level experience in reading proofs on a daily newspaper.
Working ConditionsThis position requires a Moderate Risk Public Trust clearance. The selectee will work in an office setting and may be required to visit other sections, whose work is performed in a production environment. Ear/Eye protection and safety shoes are provided as necessary.
