Job Summary

As a key member of the Waste Management team, the Laboratory Hazardous Waste Manager will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient daily operation of the landfill laboratory.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage all laboratory personnel, data, and quality control.
  • Implement waste analysis plans and RCRA regulations as it pertains to analysis and testing.
  • Review special waste to determine acceptability for hazardous waste disposal.
  • Perform routine laboratory functions as assigned.
  • Facilitate the receipt of materials for treatment and disposal in compliance with WM policies and procedures, including state and federal guidelines.
  • Apply appropriate treatment and disposal methodologies to be utilized at the facility for the specific waste.
  • Ensure that the health and safety of employees and the environment is maximized.
  • Oversee personnel needs of the laboratory, including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance.
  • Provide input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Work with other supervisors/managers to coordinate services and keep them informed as issues arise.
  • Keep the district manager fully informed of all problems or matters requiring attention.
  • Make personal contact with customers and assist them with questions and/or concerns as appropriate.
  • Ensure safety, cleanliness, and organization of laboratory work area and related storage areas.
  • Conduct and/or attend periodic meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among employees.
  • Provide training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
  • Update and submit required reports in a timely manner.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Seven years of relevant work experience, including management experience in an analytical lab setting.
  • Knowledge of RCRA and/or TSCA regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Work Environment

The normal setting for this job is a laboratory environment. The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, and a stock purchase plan.
