Mental Health Technician Job Description

At Darke County Recovery Services, we are committed to providing high-quality mental health services to our clients. We are seeking a skilled Mental Health Technician to join our team.

Job Summary

The Mental Health Technician will work closely with our Mental Health Housing Director to provide oversight and support to residents in our mental health housing program. This role requires a strong understanding of mental health principles and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Mental Health Housing Director in overseeing the operations of the respite/transition home and ensuring a safe and peaceful environment.
  • Participate in residential intake, discharge, and care plan development.
  • Ensure all residents adhere to program and policy requirements and log outcomes and participation.
  • Assist with room checks and administer drug screens as directed.
  • Record client vital signs and notify the nurse of any changes.
  • Continuously observe clients' behavior and mental status and notify any changes or unusual occurrences.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify behaviors that require intervention.
  • Perform client safety checks and document appropriately.
  • Assist clients with medical needs and demonstrate the ability to set limits and use de-escalation techniques.
  • Answer the telephone in a professional manner and direct calls appropriately.
  • Maintain a team approach through communication, documentation, and planning with mental health housing staff.
  • Assist with the provision of daily presence in mental health housing and assist residents in obtaining food.
  • Assist the Mental Health Housing Director in maintaining appropriate certifications and licenses for facilities.
  • Assist in the completion of reports for grants, funding, referral sources, etc.
  • Work closely with community partners and referral agencies to promote high-quality and effective services.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Associate's degree in a Social Services or Psychology-related field (or 3+ years' work experience in behavioral health in lieu of degree).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good customer service skills with clients and the community at large.
  • Competency in areas prerequisite for performing activities noted above with supervision.
  • Utilization of computer skills to perform clinical documentation and generate written documentation in WORD or via email.
Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include:

  • Regularly sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and talking and hearing.
  • Occasionally standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Frequently lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds and occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to climb and descend a flight of stairs.
Work Environment

The work environment for this role includes:

  • Working in a facility environment with multiple individuals.
  • Awareness of proper food preparation and storage, safety and health issues, prevention and intervention with insects.
  • Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and insects such as bedbugs.
