Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support services in a hospital setting. As a Nursing Assistant, you will work under the direct supervision of the unit charge person to ensure the highest level of patient satisfaction and care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and report vital signs, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Respond to patient calls, messages, and requests in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Notify nursing staff of any significant changes in patient condition, adhering to established communication protocols.
  • Requisition and manage supplies and equipment, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Transport patients as needed, prioritizing their safety and comfort.
  • Assist in the chemotherapy area, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Ensure charts are properly stocked and maintained, with all necessary forms and documentation available.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members, using clear and concise language.
  • Prioritize tasks and orders in a timely and accurate manner, using computer systems and technology as needed.
  • Post reports and updates in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Schedule patient appointments and follow-ups, using established protocols and guidelines.
  • Use computer systems and technology effectively, adhering to established security and confidentiality protocols.
  • Assist colleagues as needed, using time constructively and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Pre-admit patients prior to their initial consultation, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
  • Answer telephone calls and messages in a professional and courteous manner, screening calls and relaying messages to appropriate staff.
  • Demonstrate ability to recognize priorities and deal with them effectively, using established protocols and guidelines.
  • Order radiology and laboratory procedures, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.
  • Collect co-pays and manage monies, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Nurse Assistant in a hospital setting preferred.
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA) preferred upon hire, and required within 30 days of hire.
