Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare meticulous cost estimates structured according to the project's pricing requirements.
  • Conduct thorough research on pricing based on historical data and regional market trends.
  • Provide an initial project scope to create a summary estimate and manage outsourcing control documentation.
  • Engage directly with subcontractors and suppliers to gather necessary information.
  • Visit construction sites, attend pre-proposal meetings, clarify project scopes, and prepare Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • Draft comprehensive statements of qualifications and proposals that align with project owners' requests.
  • Assess projects for feasibility and identify opportunities for cost-saving measures through value engineering.
  • Collaborate closely with company personnel and stakeholders to formulate strategies and gain a comprehensive understanding of project requirements.
  • Identify and engage specialty subcontractors and suppliers to meet specific project needs.
  • Develop and/or oversee the creation of preliminary bid schedules.
  • Generate self-performed estimates for trades designated for in-house execution.
  • Work collaboratively with subcontractors and suppliers throughout the bidding process to ensure all aspects of each trade are captured in the estimate.
  • Effectively utilize project plans and specifications to determine scopes of work, assign resources, and identify subcontracting opportunities.
  • Manage the receipt of bids from subcontractors and suppliers to establish the final pricing for proposals.
  • Understand and mitigate company risks during the proposal preparation phase.
  • Collaborate with the team to finalize estimates using HCSS software.
  • Develop preliminary project schedules based on provided plans and specifications using Primavera Contractor software.
  • Engage in proposal development and technical writing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management; Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation preferred.
  • Over 10 years of experience in heavy civil estimating is essential.
  • Expertise in estimating for earthwork, underground utilities, bridges, cast-in-place concrete structures, retaining walls, and other related structures.
  • Familiarity with all facets of heavy civil work scopes is preferred.
  • Experience working with Department of Transportation (DOT) projects is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in HCSS (Heavy Bid Software), Agtek, and Primavera P6 is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with alternative delivery methods and technical writing skills is a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Highly productive and capable of independently managing a demanding workload.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical documentation.
