Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Installation Technician to join our team at Trotter Workforce. As an Installation Technician, you will be responsible for building various types of vocational trucks through assembly, hydraulic, 12v electrical, and fabrication skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble and build vocational trucks using a variety of skills, including hydraulic, electrical, and fabrication techniques.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and instructions to ensure accurate assembly and installation.
  • Follow established installation procedures and standards to ensure quality and safety.
  • Attend pre-installation meetings to discuss project details and requirements.
  • Accurately measure and read required tools, including calipers, tape measures, and squares.
  • Assemble and route hydraulic hoses and fittings, and test and set pressures.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics to wire harnesses, route, and terminate.
  • Set up and test systems, including hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Fabricate and weld minor components, using various welding techniques and equipment.
  • Weld in various positions, including vertical, flat, and overhead, using appropriate settings on the welder.
  • Clean weld spatter and slag from truck cab windows.
  • Perform minor welding required for assembly, using various welding techniques and equipment.
  • Form metals for use on truck equipment installations.
  • Utilize various power tools, including drills, impact wrenches, air ratchets, grinders, and iron workers, as needed for builds.
  • Utilize a time tracking system to record work hours and make recommendations for changes in procedure or job functions.
  • Perform other job-related duties assigned by management.
Requirements
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical understanding of hydraulics, electrical systems, and primary functions of equipment used in the industry.
  • Knowledge of basic hydraulics and 12-volt electrical systems, including wiring stop/start systems and ability to use a programmer.
  • Knowledge of sizes of fittings and hydraulic hoses.
  • Able to operate a saw for cutting steel and a plasma cutter.
  • Able to use an oxygen/acetylene torch.
  • Ability to adjust pressures and reliefs.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic welding and fabrication ability.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Mechanical design and/or practical experience in hydraulics, structural, or mechanical layout.
  • High level of mechanical aptitude and ability to understand fundamentals of mechanical systems as related to the commercial truck industry.
  • Technical college degree desired, or structured on-the-job training program.
  • Successfully completed 2-5 years' experience in-field service of heavy equipment is desired.

  • Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by Company policy for the job being performed.
  • Know and follow established job-specific and facility-wide safety and health procedures and rules.
  • Actively participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency based on training received.
  • Bring safety and health issues, unsafe acts, and safety suggestions to management's attention or correct those you can.
  • Have the ability to obtain a DOT card.
