Position Overview:

Are you a seasoned Software Engineer with a strong background in software code and algorithm evaluation, as well as expertise in Automated Information and Machine Learning (AI / ML) methodologies? If you possess experience in leading, organizing, and managing a team of Software Engineers focused on code evaluation, we have an exciting opportunity for you to support our U.S. Government client.

As a Software Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Guiding a team of experts in conducting software code and algorithm evaluations across various software applications and products.
  • Offering strategic insights on advanced AI / ML methodologies, systems, and technologies to fulfill the mission requirements of DHS CBP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate a Code Analysis Strategy, establish technical objectives, and maintain a documented plan and timeline.
  • Execute evaluations utilizing both automated and manual scanning tools (e.g., Veracode, Code DX, Fortify, Checkmarx, Whitesource).
  • Evaluate industry best practices and the latest technologies to ensure a top-tier code evaluation process and tools.
  • Document all software effectiveness measures, performance metrics, weaknesses, and vulnerabilities.
  • Report metrics to assess software quality, security effectiveness, and identify critical risk areas.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies/tools to detect code weaknesses and security vulnerabilities.
  • Leverage knowledge of application architecture, design, development, and secure coding principles to identify findings and communicate risks and remediation strategies.
  • Generate analysis reports with guidance for developers, including recommended controls and countermeasures.
  • Present findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Maintain awareness of the current vendor software security threat landscape.
  • Possess experience with AI / ML technologies that predict, optimize, and automate responses to threats.
  • Identify relevant AI / ML techniques to achieve DHS / CBP mission objectives.
  • Provide thought leadership to aid in the development of AI / ML strategies and program plans.
  • Review complex algorithms; analyze and test to ensure expected outcomes.
  • Ensure measures are implemented to enhance transparency, accountability, and regularly monitor systems for potential bias and errors.

Compensation and Benefits:

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is dedicated to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $170,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law. Job Requirements:

  • Active DHS Clearance, CBP Background Investigation, or ability to obtain clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM with 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience with the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Expertise in Code Analysis tools and technologies.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning principles.
  • Familiarity with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) regulations, NIST Framework, CISA best practices, and guidance related to cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
