About the Unit

This specialized 48-bed unit focuses on orthopedic, neurological, and trauma care. We manage a variety of conditions including total knee and hip replacements, spinal surgeries, and hip fractures. Our team is certified in Stroke and Trauma care, engaging in continuous education every quarter to enhance our patient care capabilities. The multidisciplinary team comprises Registered Nurses, nursing assistants, nurse technicians, unit secretaries, physical and occupational therapists, orthopedic care coordinators, and case managers. The nurse-to-patient ratio is maintained at 1:4-6, while the nursing assistant ratio is 1:8-10.

Scope of Work

The Patient Care Technician provides essential support to patients in alignment with the care plan, unit protocols, and hospital policies under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include:

  • Safe transportation of patients using wheelchairs or stretchers.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of services rendered.
  • Acting as an Observer for patients requiring constant monitoring, either in-person or through remote video.
  • Performing general clerical duties to ensure the smooth operation of the nursing unit.
  • Documenting care provided in the electronic medical record system.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or nursing home setting is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to document information accurately.
  • Capability to interact efficiently with diverse individuals.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills.
  • Physical ability to assist in moving or lifting patients and equipment.
