Position Overview

The Director of IT Operations will be responsible for planning, organizing, and executing all technology and system functions across the organization. This role will serve as a bridge between management and technology, requiring excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will have the skills and passion to be a solutions-oriented asset to the leadership team at Matter Surfaces Inc.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the integration and implementation of IT operations, computer hardware, operating systems, communications, software applications, and data processing.
  • Ensure the consistency and maintainability of existing applications by creating, maintaining, and enforcing standards/procedures for implementing technical solutions.
  • Direct and participate in the execution of technology production tasks according to a documented schedule that meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Produce detailed timelines and organizational communication for each project and implement effective project control by monitoring, managing, and reporting the status.
  • Analyze complex business needs presented by the user community and/or clients and recommend technical solutions.
  • Direct and prioritize the workload of team personnel, mentoring and developing staff by providing education and training opportunities.
  • Review all designs, code, and unit test plans, where applicable.
  • Collaborate with business leaders and approve all business requirements prior to the technical solution. Lead or participate on all hardware and software evaluations and maintain vendor contracts.
  • Perform liaison duties between users, operations, and technology personnel and vendors.
  • Audit current infrastructure and plan future IT needs by consulting with people at all levels about the current work systems and deciding how improvements could be made.
  • Analyze the information needs of the organization and develop technological solutions to satisfy those needs.
  • Set the priorities for systems developments, maintenance, and operations – develop policies to ensure proper system utilization and compliance.
  • Control the security aspects of IT systems, maintaining a current Disaster Recovery Plan to reduce organizational risk.
  • Manage software licenses, maintenance agreements, warranties, etc. – participate in the annual budgeting of these expenses.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes and ensure they are communicated and implemented within the team.

Requirements

  • Prior hands-on experience developing and/or implementing NetSuite is highly desired.
  • Microsoft Office 365 suite knowledge is required – as operations move to the cloud, hands-on experience with SharePoint and cloud backups is necessary.
  • Strong and current knowledge of different approaches to mid-sized business technology infrastructure solutions.
  • Customer-focused, business-minded, organized, and process-oriented. Project management skills are a must.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with an ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to operate at both the strategic and tactical levels will be critical to success. Competency to develop technology solutions and strategies and both manage and participate in their execution.
  • Proven ability to recruit, develop, and motivate an effective technology team.
  • Strong team player and builder (a collaborator). It is important that this individual be able to manage up, across, and down in a proactive fashion.
  • Self-motivated. This position enjoys both significant support, but also autonomy.

Additional Requirements

  • BS/BA plus 5-7 years' experience in building a high-performing technology team and achieving aggregate and personal goals.
  • Knowledge and/or direct experience with Business Intelligence, Data Visualization, and/or planning and forecasting tools. All of these may become future projects that are led by this position.
  • Moderate to excellent user of MS Office Suite (power point, excel, word, etc.).

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge or understanding of C# and/or Javascript or other 4GL language.
  • Legacy MS Windows OS, Windows Desktop (7 & 10), Microsoft Office 365, Report Writing Software (Crystal Reports or SSRS), ERP Software (NetSuite), Relational Databases, Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Windows Server 2003/2008/2012, Active Directory.
  • Networking basics (LAN, WAN, WIFI).
  • Phone Systems (RingCentral and NEC on premises).
  • Network vendor management.
