Director of Intellectual Property Management

The University of Cincinnati seeks a highly skilled Director to lead its Technology Transfer Office. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Technology Transfer, this key role will be responsible for managing the institution's intellectual property portfolio, fostering internal relationships, and developing strategies for technology transfer.
This position will lead a team of Licensing Associates, support researchers through agreement management, and address complex intellectual property issues. The Director will play a pivotal role in promoting an inclusive approach to technology transfer, driving societal impact, and transforming research into real-world applications.

The Technology Transfer Office, located within the 1819 Innovation Hub, plays a critical role in advancing the university's mission to foster innovation and drive economic impact. The office is dedicated to protecting and commercializing intellectual property generated by UC's world-class research community.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement a transparent process for evaluating and marketing University invention disclosures, patent protection, and license agreements.
- Define technology development and commercialization strategy, assess existing and emerging technologies, and create relationships to advance technology transfer.
- Provide leadership and management of case managers in Biosciences and Physical Sciences disciplines, emphasizing a team approach to reviewing and commercializing university technologies.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with regional research institutions and economic development organizations.
- Develop a strategy for educating faculty and staff on technology transfer.
- Create opportunities for greater collaboration across the University of Cincinnati, its colleges, departments, and community partners.
- May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff.
Required Education
- Professional Degree
- Terminal degree in medical, physical, or engineering sciences, or business.
Required Experience
Five (5) years of demonstrated management experience and leadership in the scientific area of expertise.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Ph.D.
