Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Traffic Control Specialist Trainee to join our team at the City of Clovis, NM. As a Traffic Control Specialist Trainee, you will assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic devices, including traffic signals, signs, and devices such as traffic islands, street name signs, and painted traffic control lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the installation and maintenance of traffic signals, signs, and devices.
  • Conduct field studies to determine traffic volume, speed, and effectiveness of signals.
  • Assist with electrical repairs in city facilities.
  • Climb ladders or stand in tower-trucks to reach traffic devices.
  • Test circuits and electronic components to detect faulty equipment.
  • Replace blown fuses and bulbs, faulty transformers, timers, electrodes, and wires using electricians' hand tools.
  • Construct and install regulatory signs.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid New Mexico Commercial Drivers' license.
  • Nationally recognized Level I Certification in Signing and Marking and a Level I in Traffic Signals.
Working Conditions
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Clovis policies.
  • Essential duties are predominantly performed outdoors with exposure to all types of weather conditions.
  • Employee is exposed to airborne particles, potentially toxic and/or caustic chemicals, electrical hazards, and extreme temperatures.
