Precision Machining Specialist

The Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating various machine shop equipment, including manual Vertical Mills, Lathes, and Drills, with a focus on CNC proficiency.

Equipment Operation: Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and machine guarding.

Blueprint Interpretation: Analyze blueprints, sketches, and specifications to ascertain dimensions and tolerances of the finished workpiece, as well as the sequence of operations and setup requirements.

Machining Operations: Execute a variety of machining tasks such as turning, facing, chamfering, and cutting off on diverse materials, including castings and special orders.

Measurement and Setup: Accurately measure, mark, and scribe dimensions on materials to guide subsequent machining processes. Select and secure appropriate holding fixtures and cutting tools.

Control Adjustment: Calculate and set controls to manage machining factors like speed, feed, depth, and angle of cut.

Quality Assurance: Monitor machine operations to identify malfunctions or deviations from specifications, making necessary adjustments. Conduct trial runs to verify machine settings.

Work Environment Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized work area, reporting any unusual conditions to the supervisor.

Education: High School Diploma with up to 5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Proficient in reading and interpreting safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations using various units of measure.

Reasoning Ability: Capable of applying common sense to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form and solve problems with multiple concrete variables.

The role requires regular standing and the use of hands for handling tools and controls. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds and pulling of up to 50 pounds may be necessary.

Employees typically work near moving mechanical parts in a moderately noisy environment.
