Aquatic Safety Supervisor

Arizona State University is seeking part-time Aquatic Safety Supervisors who, under the guidance of the Manager for the aquatic facility, will oversee the swimming area, ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons. This role requires adherence to NCAA and conference regulations, as well as the policies and procedures established by the university and the Arizona Board of Regents.
Work Environment
- Outdoor activities performed in varying weather conditions, involving extended periods of sitting.
- Ability to stand for long durations and walk moderate distances to fulfill job responsibilities.
- Swimming for extended periods and at depths of up to 18 feet as part of job duties.
- Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling weights up to 100 pounds.
- Regularly required to climb into lifeguard stands and enter and exit the swimming pool, with or without the assistance of ladders.
- Must be able to adapt quickly to changing priorities, including conflict resolution.
- Effective communication is essential for performing key functions.
- Availability to work approximately 15 to 19 hours per week, including weekends, holidays, and special events.
- Familiarity with pool maintenance equipment, including vacuum systems and lane lines.

Qualifications
- Ability to successfully complete a water test to a depth of 18 feet during the interview process.
- Minimum of one year of lifeguard experience.
- Experience with pool maintenance equipment and competitive aquatic tools.
- Proven ability to respond swiftly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Strong decision-making and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Monitor pool activities to prevent accidents and ensure safety.
- Rescue individuals in distress and administer first aid as necessary.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations while educating patrons on safety practices.
- Implement emergency action plans and procedures during incidents.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the pool area, reporting any hazards to supervisors.
- Ensure the availability and proper maintenance of emergency equipment.
- Provide general information about pool operations to patrons.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
