Description Overview

This is an entry-level role within the Parks Department, responsible for a diverse range of tasks including the organization and promotion of park events and tournaments, as well as maintenance and construction within the City’s parks and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive:
  • Operate small vehicles with attached utility trailers, along with riding and push mowers, weed eaters, hedge trimmers, and other related equipment.
  • Conduct general grounds upkeep at all City Parks, which includes litter collection, trash disposal, mowing and trimming, and landscaping (flowers, shrubs), as well as maintaining ball diamonds.
  • Utilize blowers to clean all paved areas.
  • Ensure facilities are maintained by cleaning restrooms daily, restocking paper products, and cleaning concession stands as needed.
  • Perform basic building maintenance at all park facilities, which includes minor carpentry, electrical and plumbing work, repairs, and painting.
  • Report any damaged or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Carry out routine maintenance and servicing on vehicles and equipment.
  • Adhere to departmental policies and assist colleagues in compliance.
  • Follow safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Missouri Driver's License.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • One year of experience in a role similar to a Parks Technician.
OR
  • A combination of education, training, or experience that qualifies for the position as determined by the City Administrator and Parks & Recreation Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge of:
  • Construction equipment, materials, and methods used in parks operations and maintenance.
  • Common hazards and safety measures in City parks and facilities.
Ability to:
  • Perform general mechanical tasks effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Operate City vehicles in accordance with state laws and City policies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
  • Comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision.
