Transplant Financial Coordinator

The Senior Collections Representative (Transplant Financial Counselor) performs all admission functions, including in-house financial management, and provides leadership within their functional area. This role is responsible for verifying accurate demographic and financial information and having knowledge of the review and interpretation of insurance benefits. The Senior Collections Representative performs financial counseling, financial screening, and credit assessment. They establish all financial arrangements, refer appropriate cases to other agencies, internal and external, to assist patients with discharge/post hospital care. They interact closely with Utilization Review and Patient Business Services to ensure correct and timely reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities
• Verify accurate demographic and financial information
• Review and interpret insurance benefits
• Perform financial counseling, financial screening, and credit assessment
• Establish all financial arrangements
• Refer appropriate cases to other agencies
• Interact with Utilization Review and Patient Business Services
Requirements
• Working knowledge of third-party payer verification terminology
• Working knowledge of the functional operations of third-party payors and utilization review agencies
• Working knowledge of State and Federal programs
• Ability to scrutinize credit reports and evaluate personal financial information
• Ability to attend to many details within a short span of time
• Knowledge of the availability of specific accommodations for patients on various nursing units
• Skill in detecting erroneous data input
• Working knowledge of HMOs and PPOs
• Skill in computing ratios, rates, and percentages
• Ability to analyze information, problems, situations, practices, or procedures
Preferred Qualifications
• Working knowledge of the department functions of an acute care hospital
• Knowledge of physician teams and specialties
• Ability to monitor bed availability and predict possible problems
