Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Radiologic Technologist to join our team at DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging team, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic radiological exams utilizing appropriate imaging equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient identity and review medical records for appropriateness of exam or procedure
  • Interview patients to obtain, verify or update medical history and assess risk factors
  • Explain procedures to patients, including side effects of pharmaceuticals administered, risks, benefits, alternatives and follow-up
  • Set up equipment and acquire appropriate images as per script
  • Review images, make initial observations, document exceptions from established protocols and communicate data to radiologists
  • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies as appropriate
  • Provide physician-prescribed post-care instructions to patients
  • Participate in process improvement activities within radiology practice
  • Provide imaging education to residents, student technologists and new employees
Qualifications
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiography (R)
  • Required to have or successfully complete American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BLS) training by end of orientation period
Skills Required
  • Analytical and clinical skills necessary to determine the most age-appropriate method of providing requested radiographs specific to patient's physical ability and/or limitations
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal effectively with and instruct patients who may be under physical/emotional stress
  • Technical knowledge necessary to operate equipment including but not limited to all specialized equipment and computers
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate and utilize all types of x-ray equipment and supplies in order to produce radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality
Work Environment

This is a full-time position working evening shifts, with a 12:00 PM start time and 8:30 PM end time. The successful candidate will be required to take call/standby as required by the department.
