  • This role involves the establishment and execution of a thorough Safety Leadership framework, along with training and tracking matrices tailored for the project.
  • The Coordinator serves as a vital resource for site operations personnel, ensuring they are well-informed of safety requirements and that these are effectively met.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Resources

  • Ensure adherence to company policies and guidelines by all personnel, including but not limited to:
    • Conduct and Behavior.
    • Attendance Policies.
    • Harassment Prevention.
    • Substance Abuse Awareness.
    • Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and adherence to the Site-Specific Safety Plan in collaboration with project leadership and the Corporate Safety Team.
  • Develop a Safety Leadership matrix that delineates safety responsibilities for each project member.
  • Create a Training Matrix identifying necessary skills and qualifications for all team members.
  • Establish Tracking Matrices to monitor compliance with safety meetings, inspections, and reporting procedures.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed and maintained according to regulatory and client requirements.
  • Provide health and safety orientation for new hires.
  • Assist supervisors in investigating incidents and preparing reports related to health and safety issues.
  • Facilitate weekly safety meetings and huddles with crews.
  • Support site management in developing work procedures and training requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections of site facilities.
  • Oversee the completion of incident investigations and related documentation.
  • Participate in crew safety meetings and deliver safety presentations as needed.
  • Manage and implement safety programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics related to health and safety matters.
  • Ensure safety signage is displayed appropriately.
  • Coordinate inspections and maintenance of fire safety equipment.
  • Conduct follow-ups with injured employees.
  • Administer modified work programs as necessary.
  • Evaluate safety equipment and recommend improvements.
  • Advise management on safety procedures and compliance.
  • Ensure all safety procedures are documented and reviewed regularly.

Client Relations

  • Collaborate with client representatives to align safety activities with client policies.
  • Address client inquiries and concerns promptly and effectively.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Provide guidance on safety regulations and standards.
  • Engage with government inspectors as required.
  • Ensure compliance documentation is up to date to avoid citations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project safety.

Training Development

  • Establish and coordinate health, safety, and first aid training programs.
  • Keep current with safety regulations and training requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in the mining sector, particularly in health and safety roles.

Certifications

  • MSHA Underground Certification is mandatory.
  • Professional certifications such as CMSP, CSP, or CIH are preferred.
  • A degree in occupational safety is advantageous.
