About the Role

  • This is a remote, full-time leadership position that combines managerial oversight with direct involvement in our Accounting Practice Area. As the Director of Accounting Services, you will guide a talented team of bookkeepers and financial controllers in delivering exceptional accounting solutions to our agricultural clients. You will also engage directly with clients to provide fractional controller services, shaping the strategic direction of this expanding practice area while collaborating with our consulting and marketing teams.
  • Minimal travel required for team retreats, client visits, and conferences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Practice Area Management:
    • Initial integration with the team to understand our accounting philosophy and values, while beginning to manage existing client projects.
    • Oversee daily workflows and professional development of team members, contribute to strategic planning, and facilitate cross-functional collaboration.
    • Lead the accounting team, support recruitment and training, manage the practice area budget, and drive service innovation.
  • Fractional Controller Responsibilities:
    • Implement existing financial management frameworks to establish robust foundations for clients.
    • Conduct monthly accounting reviews to ensure accuracy.
    • Analyze financial reports and facilitate regular meetings with clients to help them understand their financial position.
    • Develop and enhance financial controls and accounting processes to boost financial clarity and performance.
    • Work with clients to establish financial management priorities.
    • Collaborate with clients' bookkeepers on accounting system enhancements.
    • Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports to stakeholders.
    • Educate clients on financial systems and business processes through virtual platforms.
    • Establish and maintain a rolling cash flow tool and conduct regular accountability meetings.
    • Partner with Business Consultants on projects to provide bookkeeping support and advanced accounting analyses.
  • Nonprofit Accounting Expertise:
    • Assist nonprofit clients with expense tracking, grant management, and budget coaching.
    • Collaborate on grant writing with a focus on financial implications.

Who You Are

  • Extensive senior-level accounting experience, with a strong foundation in principles and applications, particularly in QuickBooks Online.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Slack, and project management tools.
  • Skilled in process improvement and developing written procedures for internal and client use.
  • Analytical mindset with a commitment to understanding clients' needs and educating them on effective processes.
  • Strong project management capabilities, adept at handling multiple priorities.
  • Emotionally intelligent with exceptional self-awareness and relationship management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the agriculture sector.
  • Background in leading an accounting firm or practice.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of GAAP; CPA certification preferred.
  • Experience with nonprofit controllership.
  • Knowledge of nationwide sales tax and payroll processes.
