Job Overview

Location: Primarily remote, with a requirement to reside in the Columbus, Ohio area.

Position Summary

This role is integral to the OhioKan initiative, focusing on empowering kinship caregivers and adoptive parents by facilitating access to essential services, resources, and community support. The specialist will engage directly with families and children, contribute to ongoing quality enhancement efforts, participate in community outreach, and stay informed on best practices for supporting kinship and adoptive families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Address inquiries regarding the OhioKAN program, provide necessary referrals, and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Collaborate with kinship and adoptive families to evaluate their needs, set goals, and deliver tailored case management to assist them in reaching their objectives.
  • Work with diverse families and partner organizations with a compassionate, strengths-based approach that emphasizes respect and dignity.
  • In conjunction with the Regional Director, establish and nurture relationships with public and private entities to facilitate referrals.
  • Alongside the Regional Coordinator, develop and maintain a comprehensive list of services and resources available to kinship and adoptive families in the region.
  • Advocate for kinship and adoptive families to ensure they have access to the necessary services to fulfill their goals.
  • Organize and conduct events aimed at outreach, public education, and support for kinship and adoptive families.
  • Perform home visits and meetings at times and locations that are convenient for families.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor or Director.

Required Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication abilities
  • Detail-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management and public speaking skills
  • Proficient in computer applications and event planning

Educational Background

An Associate's degree is required; a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Education, or a related field is highly preferred.

Experience

Preferred experience includes direct work with families and/or case management.

Note: Local travel may be required as necessary, and candidates must have access to their own transportation.
