Job Summary:

The Asset Protection Specialist role at Ocean State Job Lot is responsible for protecting company assets and monitoring store activities to reduce property or financial losses. This role partners closely with store leadership and the Human Resources team, when applicable, to investigate known or suspected internal theft, external theft, and vendor fraud.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Detect and Respond to External Theft and Fraud: Work undercover within assigned stores to identify and prevent external theft and fraud.
  • Collaborate with Store Leadership: Partner with store leadership and associates to combat property or financial loss in the stores.
  • Analyze External Theft Trends: Identify and analyze external theft trends, utilizing information in Company reports and information gathered from store leadership and associates.
  • Liaise with Law Enforcement and Court Officials: Serve as liaison between Company, law enforcement, and court officials to effectively prosecute external theft and fraud.
  • Support Associate Theft and Fraud Detection: Support the detection and resolution of all associate theft and fraud.
  • Promote a Safe Environment: Promote a safe environment for all store customers and associates.
  • Conduct Safety and Asset Protection Spot-Checks: Conduct safety and asset protection spot-checks and audits to ensure store compliance with core policies and procedures.
  • Support Regulatory Compliance: Support compliance with regulatory requirements, including, but not limited to, OSHA and Store Sanitation agency mandates.
Qualifications:
  • Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience: 1-3 years experience as an Asset Protection Store Detective is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Some proficiency in Google Mail and Docs is preferred.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Criminal Record: Must have a clean criminal record and satisfactorily pass the requirements of a background check and drug test.
  • Driver's License: Must have a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Language Skills: Must be able to communicate in and comprehend English; bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
Work Environment:
  • Travel Requirements: Duties are performed across a range of stores in a designated market. The market may change according to Company size and need. Travel may be required to multiple stores in a given week, including travel to two or more stores in a single day.
  • Physical Demands: Individuals must have the ability to move around the sales floor in a retail environment for an extended period of time.
