POSITION SUMMARY:
The Long Term Care Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering skilled nursing evaluations and direct patient care to residents in a long-term care setting. This role involves active participation in the development of resident care plans and ensuring the delivery of high-quality care. The LPN/RN may also take on the responsibilities of charge nurse or floor nurse, which includes administering medications and treatments, as well as supervising and coordinating care provided by assigned staff in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Additionally, the LPN/RN may be called upon to offer nursing services in other departments within the facility to address the care needs of residents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Alaska is required.
- Ongoing education to maintain CEU credits as mandated by the State of Alaska.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is necessary.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in Gerontology, preferably within a Long Term Care environment, is preferred.
- Effective communication skills, including speaking, listening, and writing, are essential for interacting with others and documenting care provided. Proficiency in computer documentation is required.
- Ability to perform numerical calculations for drug dosages is necessary.
- Competency in IV therapy must be obtained and maintained according to facility policy.
- Completion of General and Licensed staff orientation for Long Term Care is mandatory.
- Strong organizational skills to manage tasks effectively.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills and aptitude.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
South Peninsula Hospital operates as a 22-bed critical access hospital alongside a 28-bed skilled Long Term Care Facility. The role necessitates prolonged periods of walking and standing, along with the ability to stoop, sit, and lift heavy loads safely. Employees may encounter exposure to blood-borne pathogens, infectious diseases, falls, needle stick injuries, and muscle strains. Mechanical lifting devices are available to assist with resident transfers as required. The physical demands of the position are moderate, with the majority of work conducted indoors. Work hours may vary based on operational needs and scheduling requirements.
