Transactional Attorney for Solar Infrastructure Development

Sol Systems, a leading solar energy firm based in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced attorney to join its team. The company is dedicated to building a more sustainable future by deploying renewable energy infrastructure across the United States.

The Senior Counsel will provide legal support for all of Sol Systems' business units, with an emphasis on supporting the company's solar infrastructure development platform. Day-to-day activities will include supporting major development, M&A, and financing transactions; supporting everyday legal matters, like NDAs, vendor service agreements, and routine corporate compliance; advising business teams and company management regarding legal risks and strategy; managing disputes; and managing outside counsel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support or lead major transactions, including development, M&A, and financing matters, that drive the growth of the company's solar infrastructure development platform.
  • Handle everyday legal matters, such as non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), vendor agreements, and routine corporate compliance, ensuring that the company operates within regulatory frameworks.
  • Advise business teams and company leadership regarding legal risks and strategy, providing expert guidance to inform business decisions.
  • Manage outside counsel to control quality and cost of service, ensuring that external legal services are optimized.

A successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • A license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • Excellent academic credentials, demonstrating a strong foundation in law and a commitment to lifelong learning.
  • At least two years experience in a transactional practice at an Am Law 200 or comparable firm, government agency, or sophisticated in-house legal department.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently, taking initiative to drive results and solve problems.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple business teams and management levels simultaneously, fostering effective communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Expertise in at least one relevant discipline, such as finance, M&A, real estate, construction and procurement, or offtake, with a generalists attitude toward other disciplines.
  • Commercial mindset and commonsense business judgment, applying sound business principles to inform legal decision-making.
  • Enthusiasm for leveraging software tools, including AI, to find new efficiencies and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Preferred experience in the energy sector, particularly solar or other renewable technologies, but not required.

Location & Hours: This is a full-time role and will be based in our Washington, DC office. We offer a competitive salary package, which includes an estimated annual salary of $170,000 - $220,000, depending on experience, plus benefits, including health insurance, retirement benefits, partial fitness reimbursement, education benefits, parental leave, paid vacation, sick and federal holidays.
